As the world famous E3 approaches in the coming weeks, the rumor mills have begun to turn for the recently debuted Nintendo Switch. In the past week, there have surfaced alleged screenshots of gameplay from a Switch version of Super Smash Bros. 4 on 4Chan. Now while these pictures are under speculation, the whole Smash 4 community is buzzing about the possibility of a revamped version of the newest installment of the Super Smash series.
Additionally, I have stated that it would be an important corner piece for there to be a smash revamp for the next Nintendo console back when the codename was the NX. Many disagreed stating that the creator would not want to make another installment so soon after the fourth was released. Fast forward a couple years and opinions change but mine have not; a Smash 4 “remake” would be vital for a console that does not have that many games to offer at the given moment and adding a huge name title to its arsenal would ensure that sales of both the game and console will continue. However, there are some issues that need to be worked out if this game is to come to fruition:
- Will there be any new characters added to the already huge roster?
- How will this system change the way the game is played competitively?
- If there are new DLC characters to be added, will there be another poll or will they use characters from games like Splatoon?
- What happens if this rumor does not come true?
With this being a rumor it could be taken with some speculation that could not happen but nevertheless, I feel that the game will be still be enjoyed on the Wii U. However it will be a crippling blow to the anticipation for the future of the console as a whole.
Personally, I do want to see Smash 4 come to the Switch so that the Wii U generation (short-lived as it may be) can finally be put to rest and so Nintendo can move on from the in between evolution from the Wii to Switch; much like the second form of Cell in the Dragonball series.
