While the last of the DLC characters for Super Smash Bros for Wii U have been out for almost a year, not much has been heard of Amiibos that were promised to accompany Cloud, Corrin, and Bayonetta. Well all you collectors can finally complete the set soon, as Nintendo has filed four CPSIA (Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act) Certificates of Compliance for new Amiibos. Now you may notice that the numbers don’t quite add up: only three missing characters and four new Amiibos. And how can we be sure that these are in fact intended to be Smash Bros.?
One Reddit user pointed out that the item numbers on these have “AA” in them, beyond the “NVL C.” Similarly, the Amiibo for Yoshi’s Wooly World have “AB” and Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Amiibo have “AK.” Smash Bros. has “AA” because it was the first game to come with Amiibo support.
So we can conclude that the long-awaited missing Amiibos are coming sooner rather than later. That’s one mystery down, but what of the unknown fourth Amiibo.
One possibility is that this could be a pack that includes all three of the DLC Amiibos, though this would be the first time you could buy the same Amiibo either individually or in a pack. It could also be an alternate costume for a pre-existing character, such as Advent Children for Cloud or Breath of the Wild for Link. But the most exciting prospect is that this could be a brand new character that could be introduced to the Switch port of Smash Bros. This might be a bit of a stretch since Bayonetta was declared the final DLC character, but the time would be right to bring attention back to the game and to the Switch.
