This week in may has been a sad day in the animation and voice acting industry. Alan Young and Yuko Mizutani, best known as the voice of Scrouge McDuck and as the Japanese voice for Sora in Digimon respectively, both passed away May 19, 2016. Both were legendary for their roles and their voices resonate through the ears of the children of their respective generations.
Alan Young’s voice was synonymous with the 1980’s animated children show Ducktales as the billionaire uncle Scrouge McDuck. The show folowed the adventures of the billionaire and his three nephews, Dewey, Huey, and Louie, as they ventured off on globetrotting, treasure hunting expeditions. The show spent four years on air in the late 80’s and early 90’s and a movie and multiple spin-off series including the famous Darkwing Duck. Alan Young is survived by his four children.
Yuko Mizutani sweet voice proved the perfect match for the spunky heroine in the Digimon series as Sora but is most known for her role in Tenchi Muyo! as Mihoshi. Digimon follows the adventures of seven children as they try to get home from mysteriously being transported to an island full of strange creatures. the show aired in the United States in August of 1999. Yuko had been battling with breast cancer in the recent years and is survived by her husband Mizuho Nishikubo.
